What you need to know about finding the right fit shoe?

When its about your child’s growing feet, the perfect fit is everything.

If shoes are too big, the foot slips forward and the toes and metatarsals (supporting bones of the foot) are crushed. If shoes are too small, the foot becomes deformed in order to force the shoe to fit.

As glorious as their stories are, children under 5 unfortunately cannot reliably tell you if their shoes are too loose or too tight. With the toothless footwear, seeing is believing!

In addition, our sizing means no more guesswork! While the rest of the shoe world works in an archaic system devised by Anglo Saxons in which shoe sizes are measured in barleycorn lengths (where one barleycorn equals 1/3 inch… we have got you covered!).

At toothless, we understand that parents want a quick and easy way to size their child’s feet. Gone are the time-consuming visits to shoe stores, with poorly educated store assistants and limited in-store stock. From the comfort of your home, or even on the move, you are always first in line.

Measuring Your Child’s Feet

Here are some tips before we get started:

  • Your child should be barefoot (with toes uncurled)
  • If you plan to have your child wear socks with their shoes, then make sure they are wearing them when you measure
  • Measure one foot at a time

So, how do you do it?

  1. Find a ruler, a pen, and a piece of paper
  2. Place the paper on a hard flat surface against a wall
  3. Have your child stand (still!) with their heel against the wall
  4. Make a mark at the tip of their longest toe
  5. Record the actual measurement in millimeters
  6. Take the largest measurement of both feet and add 5-10 mm for growth and wiggle room
  7. Congratulations! You have got your Perfect Size Number!
  8. Take that number and compare it to our Size Chart below. If your child’s foot falls in between sizes, round up. The extra room won’t be there for long!
